Diaphragm
Diaphragms are in fact the oldest contraception method world wide. The German physician Dr. Mensinga developed this rubber cap for "temporary sterility" already in 1889. He had lost his wife while she was giving birth to their third child. This was the motivation for him to look for a method allowing women to decide independently whether or not they want to get pregnant.

The first diaphragm was a rubber cap with a coil spring around the edge. This basic form has remained unchanged since then.
Once fitted by a nurse or a physician, the diaphragm is very reliable.
