Diaphragm jelly/cream
Diaphragms or cervical caps should always be used with a spermicidal jelly or cream.
T he jelly or cream should be in the diaphragm or cervical cap before it is insert and before having intercourse. The gel or cream has a mechanical and physical effect on the sperms. The cells of the sperm are destroyed and stopped to move further to the cervix. Both effects plus the mechanical barrier of the diaphragm or cervical caps prevent, that sperm could enter the cervix or the uterus.
The use of a gel or cream is a must for any use of diaphragms or cervical caps.
To use a diaphragm or cervical cap without any jelly does not protect against unwanted pregnancy.
